BOOK REVIEW: Addicted To You by Krista Ritchie

That's right, baby Nylah has grown up!! This is my first New Adult series (I've read one New Adult standalone previously as an ARC) and I'm so excited to be back reviewing!!

She’s addicted to sex. He’s addicted to booze…the only way out is rock bottom.

No one would suspect shy Lily Calloway’s biggest secret. While everyone is dancing at college bars, Lily stays in the bathroom. To get laid. Her compulsion leads her to one-night stands, steamy hookups and events she shamefully regrets. The only person who knows her secret happens to have one of his own.

Loren Hale’s best friend is his bottle of bourbon. Lily comes at a close second. For three years, they’ve pretended to be in a real relationship, hiding their addictions from their families. They’ve mastered the art of concealing flasks and random guys that filter in and out of their apartment.

But as they sink beneath the weight of their addictions, they cling harder to their destructive relationship and wonder if a life together, for real, is better than a lie. Strangers and family begin to infiltrate their guarded lives, and with new challenges, they realize they may not just be addicted to alcohol and sex.

Their real vice may be each other.

The story of how I actually came to read this novel is one for the campfire. About two years ago, when I was starting out on here, I was scrolling through my Twitter feed and one of my fave bloggers and Twitter users, a girl named Lily C had reviewed a book on this sex addict who was with an alcoholic. At that time, it seemed...I don't want to say vulgar but something milder. I made a mental note to read this in the future when I was maturer.
Cut to me going through a reader's block (more like a drought for the mind), and I remembered that so quickled Kindled it (no pun intended).

I got into this book pretty quickly and could relate to the protagonist in ways more than the obvious.
Lily is the main character here and she is, indeed, a sex addict.

What made this novel even better was that Lily and her fake bf Lo are both rich, their fathers founding billion dollar companies. It adds a juicy and Gossip Girl-esque feel to the mix.
I don't want to go too deeply into the plot otherwise I won't stop but Loren and Lily knew of their addictions three years ago and, being best friends, decide to 'help each other out' by moving into an apartment together and acting out an idealistic façade.

The events in this novel literally had me on the edge of my seat and the twists! The twists were sooo unexpected.

Aside from the great content, I applaud the way in which the writer(s) (I'm sure the writer has a twin and they right together) has portrayed addiction- the good, bad and ugly. I came to respect addictions of all sorts, something that I was slightly ignorant in.

The novel threw stereotypes out of the window. To elaborate, normally it's the girl who helps the boy with his addiction, carrying him inside, setting out some aspirin and water, showering him. Whilst Lily did that, Lo did too. And I kind of liked how their dysfunctional, co-dependant relationship played out.

The Marvel and DC parts were a bit much, I feel but other than that, I fully invested myself in, 100 percent.

Bahamas. The yacht. That whole scene was a game changer. I'm so tempted to ruin it but a certain scene tugged on my emotionless, cold heart strings.

  • “Cheekbones that cut like ice and eyes like liquid scotch. Loren Hale is an alcoholic beverage and he doesn't even know it.”

  • “In this moment, I'm yours.”
  • “We’re terrible at so many things—remembering important dates, college, making friends—but the one thing we’ve always been halfway decent at is being together.”

  • “I don’t understand why we have to do this right now.” He scoots his chair into the table. “Because, Lily Calloway, you seem like the type of girl who will never return my calls.”
The Calloway sisters:
  1. Poppy: She seemed very busy with her own life (daughter and husband), and we only got a limited amount of time with her so I don't really have an opinion on Poppy. Could the story have happened the same way without her? Yes.
  2. Rose: ROSE IS BRILLIANT I LOVE ROSE. Ok so she is the snob of the family. She's intelligent and at only 21 she's got a clothing line that's been bought (and dropped) by Saks. Her lines and reactions are priceless and I fear I see a lot of myself in her. Her hatred of Lo is too funny. She's Lily's closest (in age and keeping up to date) sister.
  3. Lily: Lil's out protagonist and is the broken one of the family (high-five, girl). I loved her sarcasm, attitude and her bluntness. Everything about her is brave and great.
  4. Daisy: I see myself in Daisy, too. Daisy is the baby (at fifteen years old) and at 5'11 (Lily's down at 5'5 lol), she's already walked high end fashion runways. Not much was given about how she is in this novel but in Ricochet, she's awesome (REVIEW COMING SOON #plug)
The guys: (I feel like that sounds too shallow)
  1. Poppy's husband: I forget his name. Enough said, haha
  2. Connor Cobalt: He is a rich genius in his own right...a bit like...Rose, you say? You're correct. Whilst he was described by Lily at first as a weirdo (I'm paraphrasing), he turns out to be quite the gentleman toward Rose.
  3. Lo: Loren Hale. Lo. Lo. Lo is a tall, beautiful alcoholic with daddy issues and a potty mouth. He's all quirks and whiskey. I've already fallen hard for this one.
  4. Ryke Meadows: First off, I applaud Ms Ritchie for these names! Ryke! Loren! Loving it. Ryke is one of those book characters you don't want to have a crush one because they're borderline villans. But Ryke is hawt and a savage and quite dedicated. Scoop: He's going to be Daisy's significant other! So excited to read Hothouse Flower
Okay, that's all I'm writing as I have to get back to reading the next one! I hope you enjoyed! Remember to check out this novel
