BOOK BLITZ: Seizing Darkness by Mariana Thorn

Good evening!! It's currently half an hour 'til tomorrow and I am shattered. But blogging is my clarity, so I'm not more awake than I was a couple of minutes ago.
BTW/FYI This is hosted by my friend Amber Garcia ☺
Anyways, without further ado I will get on with this (hopefully before tomorrow lol)

With her past distant and forgotten Natalya has built herself a nice life. She has a job she finds rewarding as a special agent with the Paranormal Investigation Bureau. Her partner, Dante, isn’t too bad for a bloodsucking vampire. Val, her boss, is like a father to her. Her favorite part is that she lives near the Cascade Mountains. Whenever she needs a little vacation, she can shift into a tiger and go running in the woods. Life is good.

That is until recently. Agents are turning up dead and she can’t pin down what is going on. Little does she know that her past is about to come back and bite her in the tail. With no memories before the last year she is a little behind the curve in finding out what is going on. The investigation turns dangerous as the attack turn personal. Lives are on the line, including her own. Will Natalya find out what is going on before it’s too late?

Oohhh how amazing does that sound? Onto the excerpt!
I was walking around, keeping Radek in sight, when I found her on the front steps. It was a werewolf. I could smell Madon on her – she had been around him recently. She must be the agent that Val had sent. I could smell the tranquilizer in her blood. She was just coming to as I kneeled next to her.

“Are you okay?” I asked, staying just out of striking distance. I didn't know if she would wake up cranky. Radek was stalking toward us.

“What happened?” came her groggy reply.

“I'm not sure yet. I was hoping that you would be able to help with that. I'm Natalya. What's your name?”

“Jenna. I know you. You're that weretiger. Madon and Carly talk about you all the time.”

“Dante is missing. Do you remember anything?” I asked quickly before a fuming Radek could come over to harass her.

“We had just come out of the building and I was hit from behind, then everything went black. That's all I remember.” As I helped her into a sitting position, I could feel Radek's presence behind me and knew he'd heard her.

“You didn't see anything?” he asked. At least he was controlling his temper – I could tell it was taking some effort.

“Sorry, no sir,” she said in a small voice. Her eyes got big as she recognized who was behind me. I could smell her fear. I sent Radek a glare, hoping he would get the message to tone it down a bit more.

“Stay here for a moment. We're going to take a look around,” Radek said, and motioned for me to come with him. I gave Jenna a smile and followed Radek.

I glanced around and noticed my car parked in front of Dante's. I was walking toward it when I heard the metallic click. It almost registered a little too late. I dropped to the ground just as my car exploded. I rolled onto my stomach and covered my head to guard it from the flying debris. The heat washed over me while flying pieces of burning metal sliced through my clothes and tore into my skin. My ears were ringing and the smoke was choking me, but I had survived with minimal injuries.

Is that intriguing or what?? ♡

Ok so that's it from me. Be sure to check this book out and I'll see you next time- Bye!

Only their one night of mind blowing sex wasn't the only mistake she'd made in her intoxicated stupor. Waking up hitched to the girl he'd been in love with since they were sixteen suited Jared just fine. He was in no hurry to cut those papers up, no matter how hard the new Mrs. Dumont insisted she was no good for him. He wasn't going to let her keep them apart, and he sure as hell wasn't going to let her walk away now that she belonged to him. But can Jared accept the demons snapping at Calla's heels? COVER REVEAL: Kyle's Return by LP Dover

Hey guys!! Quick Q: What do you think of the new seasonal design of the blog? Yay or nay?
As always, thanks a million for taking time out of your twenty-four hours today to read my post. On that note, I ought to stop rambling!
Okay, so I'm excited to have the honour of revealing the cover for Kyle's Return by LP Dover, with the help of one of my great bloggy friends, Amber Garcia/Lady Amber.
Let's beginnnnnnn!

Kyle's Return
Author: LP Dover
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: April 13, 2015
Hosted by: Lady Amber's Tours

Goodreads summary
I promised myself I’d stay away from dangerous men, but I couldn’t live up to that when Kyle Andrews came back to town. He’s a manipulator, a guy who’ll do whatever it takes to get what he wants, sabotaging anyone who gets in the way. After a fatal fight left him wounded, his UFC career comes to a close. He has nothing, but he’s determined to get it all back.
My name is Megan. I’ve known violence, pain, and what it feels like to be scared to live another day. All of that changed the moment I refused to be a victim. Now that my psychotic ex, Alex, can’t find me, I’ve been given a second chance. I owe my life to my friends. The same goes for Kyle. Without him, I wouldn’t be able to feel.
Everyone hates him. But for the life of me I don’t. There’s something about him I can’t ignore. Being with Kyle makes me want it all. However, in loving a hated man, I didn’t know it’d bring the life I fled from back to haunt me. Everywhere I go danger lurks and bad things happen. Kyle believes it’s because of him, but I’m starting to think otherwise. I think Alex has found me, and if so, this time he’s not going to let me go.

Erm. holy wow! How hot is he?! Here's the full jacket, just for you ;)

BOOK REVIEW: I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson || GUEST POST!!

Hello everyone! Thanks so much for reading :)
Today's post (which is long overdue- sorry about that BTW; blame technical difficulties -_-) is a book review by my Swedish homegirl, Kitty C of I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson.
Let's get into it! :D

Heey everyone! Today is my brother's birthday, so I was thinking about a lovely book that I read recently. It is sooo good, and if you have siblings then you will (in a way) understand this book and the hate/love the main characters have for each other. Hold on, more about this later!

I'm talking about this great great book; I'll Give You The Sun, a contemporary novel by Jandy Nelson.

Goodreads summary:
A brilliant, luminous story of first love, family, loss, and betrayal for fans of John Green, David Levithan, and Rainbow Rowell Jude and her twin brother, Noah, are incredibly close. At thirteen, isolated Noah draws constantly and is falling in love with the charismatic boy next door, while daredevil Jude cliff-dives and wears red-red lipstick and does the talking for both of them. But three years later, Jude and Noah are barely speaking. Something has happened to wreck the twins in different and dramatic ways . . . until Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy, as well as someone else—an even more unpredictable new force in her life. The early years are Noah's story to tell. The later years are Jude's. What the twins don't realize is that they each have only half the story, and if they could just find their way back to one another, they’d have a chance to remake their world.

Advice!!!! This is one of those books that I advise you to jump into… head first. (With words: I recommend you to read this book without knowing anything about it). It is a really really fun and interesting book to discover on your own. But of course, I will not spoil you, except for some hilarious parts in the book that I just have to share with you :)

GENRE: Young Adult (YA), Contemporary, Romance, Realistic Fiction
AUTHOR: Jandy Nelson
PUBLISHER: Dial Books (Penguin Group)
SOURCE: Hardcover, bought
RELEASE DATE: September 16th, 2014

About the author
Jandy Nelson received a BA from Cornell, an MFA from Brown in poetry, and another MFA from Vermont College in writing for children and young adults. A literary agent for many years, she is also a published poet. The Sky Is Everywhere is her first novel. Jandy lives in San,

When I first saw the book cover I was like:
*Gasp! The cover is so colorful and has the word “sun” in its title… BUY IT!!
Then I started this book, and I really didn't know what to expect. The beginning of this book is so slow, no hate though. I didn't expect anything at all, and it's better than I ever thought it would be... all these non-fiction (neither fantasy or sci-fi) books starts kinda slow.

The novel is told from two points of view, Noah's point is told in the past, and Jude's POV is told in the present.

Anyway this story is about two twins, Noah and Jude. A boy and a girl who are very different from each other, but they share one thing in common; the art. In a way they both love it, just in different ways. Jude is more into statues, while Noah is into sketches and drawings.
Noah and Jude's mother is treating them equally, until one day, and that day changed everything. Jude began to hang out with `cool kids´ and called her brother these bad names, and yeah she changed. Noah met the cutest boy ever (Brian) and they became friends.
I like their friend/relationship soooo much, they are like discovering the galaxy together. They play and run together. They adventure together and hang out together, they watch the stars together. It is so sweet : ')

There is a part in this book where I be like: yes yes I totally understand you! (Mostly about the saving-your-brother-who-is-jumping-from-a-cliff part. I would totally do that. Haven't happened though, but when you are close to your brother(s) and they jump, then why not join their miserable attempt to fly? I would save my brothers over and over again). Because Jude ''saved'' her brother when he jumped. No matter what had happened in the past, or will happen in the future, you just will save your brother. You would not even think twice about it. Because he is your friend and when nobody saves you, he will always save you.
Some years later they switch places, Jude is the lonely one, the one who loves art. And Noah becomes this brave guy. Why? Uh here comes the ''I can't tell you part…'' because
you have to read it and find out yourself. But, Jude becomes obsessed with art and statue making. Along the way, she meets a guy. Strange, unusual, weird , and a kind guy…
Okay I know I am making the story weird, but it is really good!

Noah (young): Loves art! Like really, you always see him with a sketchbook. He's scared but happy?I think he is… He doesn't have friends, maybe because he's shy. He and Brian make the best friends! But god he thinks too much… I mean, I get the feeling like he's drooling when he make those comments about the person he's in love with.
Jude (young): She was brave and took every risk there was to take. She really wanted to be with the cool and YOLO-people, so she became one of them, but she also became a bitch… especially to Noah, and her mother.
Brian: Make these amazing adventures with Noah. He licks his lips, and that is hot ;) He likes space and stars. I would like to hang out with him and adventure in the night and watch the stars with him and just talk and laugh. Please, adventure and to talk is the best thing ever!
English guy (Oscar): He is kind, and got some extraordinary and pretty eyes, happy and kind. I love his conversations, they are hilarious :) He is cool, with a 'bad' past. But hey who doesn't?
Mother: Wow, she's like the power source in the house. Without her, everyone loses hope, because everyone loves her.

My favorite Quotes/Sentences:
  • “I love you,” I say to him, only it comes out, “Hey.” “So damn much,” he says back, only it comes out, “Dude.” He still won’t meet my eyes.”
  • “Or maybe a person is just made up of a lot of people,” I say. “Maybe we’re accumulating these new selves all the time.” Hauling them in as we make choices, good and bad, as we screw up, step up, lose our minds, find our minds, fall apart, fall in love, as we grieve, grow, retreat from the world, dive into the world, as we make things, as we break things.”
  •  “I gave up practically the whole world for you,” I tell him, walking through the front door of my own love story. “The sun, stars, ocean, trees, everything, I gave it all up for you.
  •  “When people fall in love, they burst into flames.”
  • “If bad luck knows who you are, become someone else.”
  • “And why do English people sound smarter than the rest of us? Like they should be awarded the Nobel Prize for a simple greeting?”
  • “No hot guy should be allowed to have an English accent and drive a motorcycle. Not to mention wear the leather jacket or sport the cool shades. Hot guys should be forced into footie pajamas.”
  • “Your first lesson: My studio is not a democracy. Have a donut.”

I tried so hard to find the donut scene, but I can't find it, sad and sorry :(, but you should know that the doughnut (is it a donut?) scene is the best scene ever, in the whole book. ;)

★ ★ ★ ★ Four stars (more like 4.5) but yes I enjoyed it!

I recommend it to: Everyone that likes Contemporary Novels about life. Okay mayb not life, more like mistakes, choices, love, and family. And how to find yourself when the whole world falls apart.
Whew, see you next time!
Thank you for reading :D -K

BOOK TOUR: Hellfire and Damnation III by Connie Corcoran || INTERVIEW, REVIEW, GIVEAWAY!!

Hello! How are you? It's been too long :)
Today I'm going to be participating in the blog tour for Connie Corcoran's third volume of Hellfire and Damnation.
Let's get rocking!

Goodreads summary:
Hellfire & Damnation III by Connie Corcoran Wilson is another tour of the 9 Circles of Hell described in Dante’s Inferno. It picks up where the first two collections of short stories left off, using the same framing device of stories that explore the sins or crimes punished at each of the 9 Circles of Hell in Dante’s Inferno.

The first book was the winner of the Silver Feather Award (Illinois Women’s Press Association), and the gold Medal E-Lit Award (Horror category) from the Jenkins group. Five-time Bram Stoker winner Gary Braunbeck said of book II in the Hellfire & Damnation collection: ” Seriously, Connie: can’t you write just one stinker so the rest of us will feel a little bit better?” Braunbeck added, ” Her writing is stronger, streamlined, and often lyrical, despite the nastiness her words describe. This is another impressive collection of tales from a writer I could very well learn to hate if she gets much better.”

Hellfire & Damnation III is another tour of the crimes or sins punished at each of the Circles of Hell in Dante’s “Inferno.” Like the second book in the series by Connie Corcoran Wilson, there are images whether it is a cave where teenagers are trapped, the lair of a psychopathic minister manipulating a young man of limited intelligence into murder, or a rage-fueled airplane traveler unleashing his pent-up fury on a Flight Attendant.

The author adds a From the Author, an informative peek into the creative mind of the author and the genesis of these 9 Tales of Terror. As one reviewer said (of Hellfire & Damnation II), “Connie Corcoran Wilson has written a book of short stories that will not only keep you up late nights reading, but might also keep you up long after you have stopped reading.”

I'm going to keep this review short and sweet, as there's already alot of info in this post. Here goes...
I read this novel within about three days- it was only 90 intense pages! The pace was perfect- I was never lost. It's written in third person and is generally an interestingly terrifying book. Apologises for being vague but this is definitely worth a read. I don't want to ruin anything so I'll leave you with this:
I give it 3.5-4 stars ✮.✮.✮.

Interviewwww with Connie!

1). What was the process like for writing Hellfire and Damnation III? How long did it take?
Writing H&D III took longer than writing either I or II because I was (also) writing the novel series "The Color of Evil" ( and the children's illustrated series "The Xmas Cats" ( at the same time. The first book's stories I had been collecting for who-knows-how-long? Sam's Dot published it, but it had a really bad cover. The re-issue of "Hellfire & Damnation" (I) was on Jan. 9, 2011 by the Merry Blacksmith Press.  H&D II came out July 28, 2012, so it was roughly a year and a half between H&D I and H&D II, during which time I was (also) writing other things, including "Laughing through Life," a collection of previously-published (in newspapers) humorous essays and the first of the Xmas Cats books ("The Christmas Cats in Silly Hats",
H&D III  went up on Amazon on January 19, 2015, so you can see that the span between H&D II to H&D III was more like 3 years, versus 1 and 1/2  between I and II. Why is that? Possibly because during that time I was writing a lot of other things and also working for Yahoo covering film and politics.
2). Can you briefly summarise the series in 8 words?
Scary stories touring the 9 Circles of Hell.
3). The cover is amazingly thrilling! Did you have any involvement with the final design?
I've always had a great deal of involvement with the cover design(s). When I wrote H&D II, I had a vision of "the frozen dead guy" on the cover, which I conveyed to Vinny, who executed it brilliantly. Vincent Chong did the covers of both H&D II and H&D III and also designed the cover for "Khaki=Killer," ( the 3rd novel in my "The Color of Evil" novel series. Vincent is a UK artist who has done covers for the likes of Ray Bradbury and Stephen King, but still takes the time to read every word of my book(s) before we collaborate on the cover image. For instance, with this one, we discussed the wisdom of using a giant spider, but Vinny felt it would be better and more coherent to use a male image, as has been done on all three books. It's hard to argue with an artist of his stature who was Winner of the World Fantasy Award for Best Artist (2013), a 5-time recipient of the British Fantasy Award for Best Artist, and on short lists for the Hugo Award and the Best Science Fiction Association "Best Artist" Award. Quite simply,
Vinny is a dream to work with, and his thoughts are always right on target. But I contribute a great deal to the final image. In the case of the blue coffin cover, that image was stuck in my head, and it was just a matter of trying to describe exactly what I saw in my mind to Vinny, who executed it with his usual professionalism. In the case of this cover, Vinny contributed the alchemist's symbols on the wall behind the crazed Messianic minister with the axe, but I wanted flames and the cleric's collar and I could "see" what his face might look like, in my mind's eye.
4). List 3 facts about yourself that no one knows/
I'm not sure there is ANYTHING that "no one" knows, but here are 3 little-known facts to readers who only read the stories: (a) I have 2 children, born 19 years apart. (b) I have been CEO of 3 companies which I founded. (c)  I play 5 musical instruments---2 of them well.
5). This is a phenomenal series comprised of short stories. Was the evolution from writing short stories to novels a large and hard one, or was it no different?
Thank you for the compliment. I hope other readers share your enthusiasm for the stories. I set out in my "long" writing life (i.e., books) in 2003 to write "one of everything" with the exception of romance novels and erotica (No "Fifty Shades of Grey" for me.) My first book (1989) was a scholarly tome with MLB footnotes written while in the full-time employ of an East coast teacher training firm as an educational writer; it's about successful teaching. Then, I wrote a compilation of things that I had previously published, which is difficult to categorize as humor---although some of it was---or poetry (again, some of it was).
After that, I was hired to write the "Ghostly Tales of Route66" books, which will hit eleven in number by the time I'm done breaking the route down state by state. I wrote a science fiction novel for Lachesis and followed that up with a non-fiction book on movies of the seventies ("It Came from the 70s: From The Godfather to Apocalypse Now", which The Merry Blacksmith also published.
After that, I started in with my own novel series ("The Color of Evil;" "Red Is for Rage;" and "Khaki=Killer") and the Xmas Cats series for the granddaughters. The "Hellfire & Damnation" organizing principle of using Dante's "Inferno" came to me while I was (briefly) a member of HWA, but the stories aren't really horror---they're thrillers and often true crime ones, at that. So, now I'm a member of ITW (International Thriller Writers).
I enjoy writing "short" because that's where I started---writing for 5 different newspapers in various capacities. I've been a film and book critic, interviewed celebrities, and written feature stories. I've also done 2 books of humor and the scary stuff that I think of as more "suspenseful thriller" material than as pure horror.
I'm probably going to put out a nonfiction book on the 2008 presidential campaign, which I covered for Yahoo, next. I have over 1,000 articles that garnered over 3 million hits, many pictures, and the rights reverted to me in July.
And, of course, there is the prospect of a Book #4 in "The Color of Evil" ( series, which is tentatively titled "Scarlet Summer." I know that my mentor, William F. Nolan, a Living Legend in Dark Fantasy, whose 87th birthday is March 6th, enjoys writing short stories, and I'm with him on that. But I wanted to prove I could write "one of everything" and I've got literary fiction and a mystery to go, after I finish the 2 projects just mentioned.
And, of course, I will have a new Xmas Cats books by Christmas for Ava and Elise, the granddaughters.
6). How does a writing day for you go/what's your routine for writing?
I'm with Anne Rice, who is a streak writer. I go to Chicago and hole up to write anything lengthy. I don't come out until I see my shadow or it stops snowing, whichever comes first. (written in winter, obviously, with tongue in cheek.) I don't sit down in one place at a certain time and I don't count how many words I've written that day or the next. It's probably why I'm only getting 4 books a year written (and have only had 3 out since Christmas). Today, for instance, we went to see "Whiplash" (my second viewing), had dinner, came home, the husband is taking a nap, and I'm writing this, which will be followed by a couple of blog posts. And so it goes.
7). Connie, lastly, do you have any tips for aspiring writers?
I say this all the time, but it still holds true: learn the basics. It's no different than a basketball or football coach stressing the basics of running and passing and blocking and dribbling (to mix sports terms) to his team members. Learn grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.. Then branch out to trying to tell a story with the most sincere voice within you.
And don't give up your day job.

Thanks so much, Connie! This was a really awesome interview. I hope YOU took something from this.

BOOK REVIEW: Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare || GUEST POST!!!!!!!

Hello!! I'm Nylah and today I am very, very, VERY excited to welcome one of my new blog friends, Kitty C!! Now she doesn't have a blog is super passionate about books. Kitty posts reviews directly onto Goodreads so check her out here and for her Twitter profile, click here.
A little backstory…
When I first out blogging- and on social media- Kitty followed me. Truth be told, I followed her merely because I follow for a follow, but there was something interesting about her. It started out by her favoriting a series of my nerdy-book-related tweets. LOL. So yeah, we meet on Twitter and now she’s going to be doing a few guest posts for a few weeks and hopefully occasionally. Long story short, aside from all of the Catfish palaver, I’ve gained one amazing online friend, whom is a year younger than me and has the same book-hype as me!
Enjoy this review :)
