BOOK REVIEW: Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

*This is book #2 in the Beautiful Creatures/Castor Chronicles series.

Goodreads summary:
Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

Although I have read the first book-and seem the movie- I have not yet reviewed it. But hey, we're discussing the sequel- Beautiful Darkness.

So this novel picks up straight after the events of Beautiful Creatures, wherein ~SPOILER ALERT~ Uncle Mason dies. Let me tell ya, Lena does not react well to this. At all.
So much so that it annoyed me to the point where I had to take a hiatus from reading (which I didn't even think was possible) and start-and finish- another book. What, right? Exactly. Basically, Ethan Wate, bless him, is doing everything in the world to get his GF-not-so-GF to at least speak with him. She's been in her room 24/7, 365 days a year, etc.
Her Grandma, Aunt Del and co. come to try and make her feel better but decide she should leave instead.
Oh, and you know how she was kinda a goth? Well now she'd turned full-on goth with Ridley and this dude. Mysterious.

It goes on and on, but, truth be told, I found it hard to absorb myself in the plot. Booklovers, you must know that when you're in such a good book, as soon as you resume reading, all the memories, emotions and words come back to you? Well I had to go back a chapter to re-delve my self in this book.
All in all, I liked the authors' style of writing so might read the next book.

Maybe I would've enjoyed it if it was in Lena's POV, cause maybe then I'd be able to feel what she feels. But thats something I can't change, so I'm going to rate it as:

★ ★ ★ 3 stars   #sorrynotsorry -_-
