BLOG TOUR: Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf || REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Welcome! I'm so happy you made it! Feel free to get some snacks. Okay, maybe a drink with a straw and a tightly sealed lid?

I know you're going to enjoy this one. I've enjoyed assembling this post, coming back and tweaking it for the past MONTH! It is so damn worth it!

Quick backstory before we jump right in: As soon as my eyes saw that gorgeous cover, I knew I had to get my hands on an ARC of it. (Yuming Yin, you're dope!) I swear, I fell in love.

What is this cover, I speak of? Check it out below (with the blurb)
Warning: breaths may be caught and illuminated beauty may shatter vision. Apologies and caution in advance.

...Ready?
35144326Zera is a Heartless – the immortal, unageing soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger ever since she saved her from the bandits who murdered her family, Zera longs for freedom from the woods they hide in. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger’s control, she serves the witch unquestioningly.
Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a Prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum; if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy her heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.
Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him – every tutor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him – until the arrival of Lady Zera. She’s inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The Prince’s honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.
So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all.
Winner takes the loser’s heart.
Literally.

How beautiful?! I'm in love, literally and here's a spoiler: what's inside that book literally lives up to the beauty on the outside.
*I crossed it out because I don't want to colour my opinion in the review.
*turns serious*

Time for the review! And keep reading to enter the giveaway!

I recieved this ARC in exchange for an honest review Entangled Teen

I am so damn annoyed.

That Bring Me Their Hearts was over! I wanted more! Case in point:

Yes, that's right; I conversed with the creator, Sara Wolf. No big deal, right?...................Wrong. Alright, enough! I'm going to be serious From Here On Out (that happens to be a song by The Killers BY CHANCE! It wasn't a pun...I mean, I've been listening to all of Battle Born on repeat but Deadlines and Commitments shouldn't interfere with the Heart of a Girl who just wants things to Be Still and the Way it Was. Sorry, sorry- it was just a Matter of Time. I'M DONE)

Where were we? Right, not even started fully.

*thinks. remembers. goes through emotional roller-coaster all over again. rocks in corner*

Initially, I thought it would take me longer than normal to not only get a grip of the main characters' POV, but also of the genre (I'm not book-biased or prejudice, I swear). I was quickly swept up in the story. Honest. It was a brilliant read: a witty, outspoken and HILARIOUS (wait for my favourite quotes below) protagonist, a dreamy love interest (hubba hubba), great friends, a cold but loving mentor (I'm getting Cinderella vibes) and a villain.

BMTH (no, not the band. Come on 🙄) was written in Zera's hilarious, spunky and flawless point of view. I swear, two days of living in her head, seeing the world through her eyes and that's my home now 😎
The writing was flawless, Sara Wolf (rad surname, girl), you are an artist! You create wonderful imagery (see some examples in blue below)

Just CHECK OUT the dedication:
"For those who have lost their own hearts, and who struggle with their own hunger"
And no, it's not crave-Subway-on-your-lunchbreak-when-it's-forty-minutes-away-and-you-only-have-a-half-hour-break-because you-were-late-in-the-morning-getting-a-Subway-breakfast. No! It's the hunger of the dark thoughts.

So I don't want to ruin the story for you, but there's Zera who is a Heartless. Yes, I know, I'm a Heartless too, but this is a literal use of the word. She is without heart- it is owned by the witch, Nightsinger who saved my girl Zera from a tragic event that took her parents.
On a nightly basis, she's like ↓↓
swooning @ Sir Skarsgard

I have a slight critique to point out before I move onto the events; I wanted more Nightsinger! I wanted to know her background (I know, this isn't her story) but she's a witch. I wanted to know more things about her. I found it almost impossible to believe that she had a soothing personality when people came to kill her. I'd be rattled! And I'm living an insanely low-risk lifestyle (I'm an avid watcher of Criminal Minds, NBD).

Real quick: I felt like some parts were slightly rushed and went over my head. That wasn't good, I wanted to absorb every single thing. I did, I have some conspiracy theories for book #2

Anyways, not to add an insane amount of detail and thus ruin the magical journey of reading this Wonderful Wonderful (I can't stop with the references of the Killers! Last one, I vow) book, but Zera wants her heart back. Seem cool? She wants to be human again! She's been sixteen for three years and is sick of it! I would be sick, too, if I didn't get Nightsinger to throw me THREE mystified Sweet 16's!
So Zera wants her heart back (I do, too, y'all. Mine. And her's. Zera and I are soul sisters) and so Nightsinger does a rather uncharacteristic thing- she dangles a proposition. Zera must take the heart of the beautifully enthralling, Prince Lucien D'something-or-other. I'm sorry! The names were not as impressionable as the characters' personalities. Like mine. Nylah? Blah! Emo yet emotional trailblazer who book blogs, works full time, tries to be creative and rock climb on real rocks whilst maintaining the education in medicine I persued in an oddly pessimistic way? Totes!
It was so great, there's not enough good words I can say about it! The cliffhanger, though, had me all: (I can't align GIFs apparently, ahha!)

We all know how it goes: Zera claims Lucien's heart. Just not the one she wanted. Dun dun dun!

I'm going to leave you on that note and move onto my favourite quotes (AKA my favourite part of reviewing. Just kidding...I totally enjoy dissecting the author's writing/style).
IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER: (It might muddle out of order because my eyes strained so much from reading it on Kindle on my phone that, at 4am I had to switch to my iPad and nothing was synchronised!)
Also, I borderline highlighted the whole book, so
  • 'Dignity carves lines around his steel-colored eyes'
  • 'Consider yourself lucky, Prince, I think. That you have a father at all in this cruel world'
  • 'I make a mental note to mark this night in my nonexistant diary as the best one ever'
  • '''Of course, I'm also the one holding their funerals. Alone. In the woods. With just me and their body and a shovel. But those are minor details. Five, by the way. The timer doesn't stop just for my elegant soliloquies'''
  • '...and thanks to my awe-inspiring intelligence I understood a whopping none of it'
  • 'If I pay attention to it, the pain only grows. So I don't'
  • 'Because I relish my sanity. Because I've seen the beast inside me once. And I swore that day I'd never let it out again'
  • 'Then maybe it's time to build a brighter fire'
  • '...but cutting his left pinky off hardly qualified as ''flirting'''
  • '''And fear turns the wisest and kindest men stupid and cruel'''
  • 'I laugh, then stop when he doesn't'
  • '''You are one,'' he insists. ''Oh, I know. But that doesn't mean it didn't hurt to hear.'''
  • 'There are lots of things in life I can live with- world hunger, plagues, my terrible bedhead, the inevitable end of civilization as we know it- but I just can't stand hating myself'
  • '''Clever'', I admire. ''I'm afraid not, miss. I'm simply old'''.
  • 'It's a small comfort, to have a bit of control in the dizzying madness of this dance'.
  • ''I'm not ready,'' I confess. She smiled grimly. ''I'll let you in on a secret; no one is ever really ready''.
  • '''They will ignore you. They will try to tell you that you aren't good enough. This is a lie'''.
  • 'The gods must be playing a joke on me. They played one before, when they allowed me to be born into this world. And now they've turned to pure cruelty'
  • '"Special case. And an especially annoying one". "Don't try to change the subject by flattering me", I singsong'.
  • 'My hand twitches toward my sword- my usual reaction to men threatening me'.
  • '"I'm saying..." I clear my throat. "That to be young and lonely is a terrible thing".'
  • 'His words aren't a slave over my open wound, but they're a splash of cool water'.
  • 'Cursing my clumsiness and my memory that insists on keeping only the nightmarish things...'
  • 'I never want to be "like the others" in his eyes'
  • '"You are in the silence. You are of the silence"'.
  • 'A beautiful thing born in the wrong era'
  • '...Lucien murmurs, shaking me out of my head'.
  • 'Why can't I just be the monster?'
  • "'Fear the past, not the future"'.
  • 'But what kind of human would I be, without anything to love?'
  • '"It's easy to pretend, but the real thing is"- he sucks in a breath- "dizzying".'
  • '"As we all should be, but as we all cannot be"'.
  • 'He kisses me and the world ends'.
  • 'They stab at me, but it doesn't hurt anymore. Nothing hurts anymore'.
  • 'The name shines, a light in the bloodstained darkness'.
I'm all scatter-brained but this book isn't one to miss, I promise you. IT WAS HEAVEN IN WORDS.
And who's the creator of this AMAZING novel? Meet Sara Wolf, you probably already know her (you should)
